Dr. Scacco Reflection

Today our guest speaker, Dr. Scacco, talked to us about social media and online platforms. We specifically discussed comment sections. You should encourage individuals to always post comments in a civil manner. People comment in negative ways because many people are irritated and when you are behind a computer screen your comments can be anonymous. Many people will respond in a positive way because they do not want to be ridiculed and prefer to go in favor of what everyone else has to say. This tends to be very true because people are always scared to go in the direction that is not favored.

Dr. Scacco also mentioned how individuals use social media in the incorrect way. The most important factor of social media is knowing your target audience. It is crucial when posting material on social media accounts. Multiple social media accounts fail because you misjudge your target audience. For example, Dr. Scacco said that Hillary Clinton made a Pinterest page about her being a grandmother.

He furthermore touched on the political side of communication. In society, we feel that we can never bring up politics because the side between Republicans and Democrats is so divided and this polarizes us from one another. There are many opinions out there today and especially being in college we deal with diverse opinions on a regular basis.
